Sometime around 1985, in the heyday of cassette tapes, my brother Howard gave me a tape by a band I'd never heard of, Working Week. He knew my taste pretty well and its groovy slightly retro sound was totally my jam. The best song on the album (tape?) was "I Thought I'd Never See You Again." It's still stuck in my head now and then, 40 years later. I still have the tape and still play it! Here's an illustration of how well I know this song: I brought it up on YouTube just now to plug it into this post - - I had the song in my head, I pressed Play, and the music in my head was in the right key. Spooky.

And another song on a similar theme:

I have questions.

  1. Where the hell are they performing? It looks like an arena but then the table nearest the stage has a number on it, like it's a convention or something. I really don't understand.

  2. Were they lipsynching in person or were they singing live and the studio recording was plugged in for this video?

  3. Who devised their barstool choreography? Fascinating how they slowly swivel around to face the camera, like a flower turning its face to the sun. Precious moments.
