Ryan on the Runway: PR22 ep 3

I kind of enjoy this cliffhanger situation, where we find out at the top of the episode how the previous episode ended. Christian read the votes one by one and it turned out that Bi was the designer who was saved. Dani, Octavius, Bao, and Yangyang were all sent home. Poor Dani has to go back to being a flight attendant. Poor Bao has to go back to being disgruntled and feeling wronged. Octavius and Yangyang just put on their shoes and went home.

A team challenge! And the button bag! Their challenge: to make a three-piece collection for the NFL, pushing the boundaries of what the NFL should look like. The leader of the winning team ("head of house") will get tickets for the 2027 Super Bowl. On the flip side, two designers will be sent home.

Heidi asked for volunteers to be head of house. Five people raised their hands and Heidi pulled four names out of the button bag: Bryan, Jeffrey, Andriy, and Joseph McRae. I KNEW that Bobby wouldn't be chosen because she wanted it so desperately. I didn't anticipate that she'd be so ugly about it.

The heads of house chose their teams, one by one, a schoolyard triggering moment for some of us:

Bryan's team: Bi, Elizabeth

Jeffrey's team: Anna, Chloe

Andriy's team: Bobby, Jude,

Joseph McRae's team: Naheim, Aaron

Next up, they chose their inspiration teams. They'd use their colors, location, and logo in their designs:

Bryan's team: Atlanta Falcons

Jeffrey's team: New York Giants

Andriy's team: Carolina Panthers

Joseph McRae's team: Philadelphia Eagles

Bobby and Andriy, previous besties, are having a bumpy night. Bobby, clearly, has a problem with Andriy being the leader. Jude, their third team member, makes the wise decision to Do a Dionne and just walk on by. And whoa, Bobby had a total emotional meltdown over a mistake she had made when her model arrived. That was hard to see. Andriy was not exactly supportive.

What did I just hear? Bi said that their team is working so well together, it was like Jell-O and ham. Yes, that's what he said. Jell-O and ham. Has anyone ever paired those things before? Anyone?

On to the runway. The guest judge was pop star and football player girlfriend Ciara.

EAGLES TEAM

Naheim: sharp, sexy, full of attitude.

Aaron: I really like it, it's cute and bold

Joseph McRae: fabulous and the choice of fabrics was perfect for the challenge.

GIANTS TEAM

Chloe: not good at all.

Jeffrey: maybe too on the nose, too costumey? Well made, though.

Anna: love it, understated but very strong.

FALCONS TEAM

Bi: pretty, well made, but I am not a fan of Side Boob. That's just me.

Elizabeth: really cool.

Bryan: the skirt was too extreme, too avant garde.

EAGLES TEAM

Andriy: OK but not a wow.

Jude: I like it. He was smart to not get pulled into the drama.

Bobby: sloppy as hell.

Team Panthers and Team Falcons were in the top. Team Panther was the winning team which means Joseph McRae is going to the Super Bowl!

Team Giants and Team Eagles were on the bottom. Here's what the judges said:

Anna: they felt it was chic. Law said it was his favorite, Tyra said she looked like the owner of the team.

Jeffrey: Law and Tyra thought it was too costumey, of course I agree.

Chloe: Tyra empathized with the model - - she said that they have the same body type and seeing her in that dress, she felt bad for the model and herself and every woman who's built like that. Ouch. Heidi said, "It doesn't look like Super Bowl. It looks like Super Bad."

Bobby: the word "disaster" was used. Law asked her what happened and she said she wasn't given any direction.

Andriy: they didn't have super bad things to say about his outfit, I think their problem with him will be that he was a bad leader.

Jude: they kinda liked it but didn't feel like it hit the football theme. Law felt like the skirt was a misfire, it would have been better with "a chic pair of Bermuda shorts." Oh yes, you're singing my song!

Of course Jude and Anna were safe. Which puts Jeffrey, Chloe, Bobby, and Andriy on the chopping block. The judges had to choose two aufs. Bobby showed some insight in the workroom by saying that everyone is responsible for their own thing and she basically needs to stand by the worst look of her career.
