Fabulous Friday: "That's How Young I Feel"

Last week was the end of my Rock and Roll Woman series. Now I'm back on my regular Fabulous Friday diet of kitsch and krap!

I recently discovered this fab number from some television variety show. Is that Dean Martin I spy at the end, on the motorcycle? We have Carol Channing and Tommy Tune doing a number from Mame - - the needle on the Swish-o-Meter done busted off! Miss Channing's dress is so short, if it weren't for those tights she'd be showing us the good china.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge all of the work that goes into the production of an inane four minute and twenty second number on a TV variety show.

  1. Come up with the idea, something suitable for the guest star.

  2. Make the arrangement.

  3. Write out the parts for the band (this was back in the day when they had to be written by hand).

  4. Design the set.

  5. Design the costumes.

  6. Come up with the choreography.

  7. Teach the choreography to the ensemble.

  8. Record the audio (you catch a brief glimpse of the boom for the dialogue but the singing is canned).
