Diva/Mensch pair for Sept 7, 2022

EGOT #15 is John Legend.

Diva: "Ordinary People"

Mensch: *Cornerstones: Founding Voices of the Black Church*

Oh Lord he is so handsome, and has such a beautiful voice. "Ordinary People" has a strong Burt Bacharach flavor to it, am I right? And you know I love Burt above all others. And I hadn't heard of *Cornerstones: Founding Voices of the Black Church* but wow, I need to check it out. The animation is so beautiful and the storytelling is so powerful.

John Legend (born 1978), a musician and producer, received his fourth distinct award in 2018. Between 2006 and 2022, Legend received a total of 18 awards. Legend has won the most Grammy Awards, 12, of any EGOT recipient, and is the first recipient who is primarily a musical performer. In addition to being the first black man to achieve EGOT status, Legend is the first person to receive the four awards in four consecutive years. He was also the first EGOT recipient to have won both a competitive Primetime and Daytime Emmy Award, an accomplishment matched by Robert Lopez in 2021. Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Tim Rice all simultaneously became EGOT recipients on September 9, 2018, when they were collectively awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
