I'm looking at two of the jazz categories in the 1989 Grammys.

Diva: Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female - - Ruth Brown for Blues on Broadway

Mensch: Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Male - - Harry Connick Jr, When Harry Met Sally...

I can't continue without mentioning the Hammond organ on the Ruth Brown recording. Oh sweet Jesus, it does a NUMBER on me. Ruth Brown is tremendous, large and in charge. And Harry Connick Jr, so charming, so disarming!

How about a bonus? Eydie Gormé, the one and only, singing "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." It's always cracked me up - - when she sings "Thought I'd visit the club," the way she says the word "club" (0:24) you can tell it's a country club and not a night club. Not what Duke E had in mind.
