Diva/Mensch pair for July 29, 2026

Lena Horne did Lena Horne, the Lady and Her Music on Broadway in 1981. It was a concert, mostly, but highly theatrical in its conception an narrative if not in its presentation. I taped it off of PBS and watched it over and over and over, it was one of those shows that planted the seed of wanting to live in New York and see that thing onstage. Horne came to Milwaukee on tour with the show and I BEGGED my parents to take me to see it. They said no, I'm sure it was ridiculous to think a 13-year-old boy could request such a thing. I will forgive them someday.

Horne got a special Tony, since there was no Tony category for a show like hers.

The whole show was on YouTube just a few years ago but it's been removed. Someone decided they could make money on it but then you should release the show on DVD! If anyone finds a video recording (I have the audio recording), please let me know.
