Best Pop Instrumental Performance: John Williams, *Star Wars* soundtrack

Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female: Thelma Houston, “Don’t Leave Me This Way”

Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus: The Emotions, “Best of My Love”

Mensch: Best Arrangement For Voices, “New Kid in Town”


"Hotel California" is a strutting diva of a song. It's moody, catchy, you've got the dueling guitar solos at the end, and the whole thing is just so damn LONG. "New Kid in Town" is off the same album but rather than being an Event it's just a Song. I seem to remember hearing The Eagles say that of their six Grammys, their win for Best Arrangement for Voices was their favorite. That category was only used eight times - - this was the second time, the year before it was "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band, a song that makes me puke.
