Diva/Mensch pair for Aug 20, 2025

Esperanza Spalding got the Best Jazz Vocal Album Grammy for 2012 for City of Roses. The song "City of Roses" is oh so plush and sexy. One of the other nominees in that category was Kurt Elling for 1619 Broadway / The Brill Building Project. Kurt Elling has the chops of a diva but seems to usually deliver the credit to the song rather than himself, which is the mark of a mensch.

On a side note, Spalding and Thara Memory also got the Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for the song "City of Roses." The arrangement is pretty damn fine.
