Jim, Michael, and I saw Data at the Lucille Lortel Theater on Mar 14, 2026. It's a new play by Matthew Libby set at a tech company. It was a well-made, focused play that drove towards its target and hit that target right on the nose. It had only four characters and they each had a specific purpose and didn't stray from that lane. I liked that - - it was like seeing the strings in a puppet show.

The play did something I really love: it started and we all thought we knew what it was about but then about a third of the way in there was a plot reveal that showed us that it was actually much deeper and more upsetting than we had known. And the stakes only got higher from there.

I'm curious to see what Libby does next - - he's only 30 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if he got snapped up to to write a terse Netflix limited series.
