I was saddened to read about the death of Diane Keaton at age 79. Love her! She hit the scene in the original cast of Hair and then in The Godfather and some early-ish Woody Allen movies. She won an Oscar for Annie Hall.

My favorite movies of hers could not be more different. I love Reds and she gives such an amazing performance in that. This scene breaks my heart, she has the emotional transcendence of Lillian Gish. The music at the end of the scene is gilding the lily but it was the 80s.

And on the flip side we have The First Wives Club, a guilty pleasure of mine (such an absurd concept). I’ve easily seen it ten times. Twenty times? Marcia Gay Harden kinda steals this scene but Keaton is adorable.

I’ll leave you with her 1985 appearance on the Letterman show. She’s such a goofball.
