My friend Jessica and I were recently talking about the commercial for Charlie, the (repugnant) fragrance from the 70s. The commercial has a few things going for it.

  1. It stars the divine Shelley Hack.

  2. The song is sung by the one and only Bobby Short.

  3. The verse starts with a five against four pattern - - the band is playing your usual one, two, three, four beat but the singer somehow evenly fits five words on top of that (though Short is somewhat free with the rhythm). I can't think of another example of this in popular culture. Can anyone else?

Kinda wow!

Ryan on the Runway: PR22 ep 4

Ugh, the recap from the previous episode was hard to watch. I hate to see tough girl Bobby being a weepy mess. Chloe was sent home. Bless her Mormon heart, being grateful for the opportunity. Jeffrey
