The Oscars for 1995 had one of my favorite face-offs. The Best Picture winner was a bloated, self-important historical epic, total Best Picture fodder. One of the other nominees was a touching, sweet, funny, expertly crafted little movie with clearly no ambitions for a Best Picture nomination, but in my estimation a far better film than the winner.
