The 2008 winner for Best Original Screenplay was Dustin Lance Black for Milk. I didn't really care for that movie, to be honest. It seemed like a color-by-numbers Hollywood biopic with a juicy, Oscar-baiting role for Sean Penn (go figure, he won) and a lot of amped up drama. Diva to the hilt and not very satisfying. One of the other nominees was the far superior Happy-Go-Lucky, a slice-of-life English drama by the master of the genre, Mike Leigh.
