CDA x 2: Kreskin and Mellen

Writer's picture: ladiesvoicesladiesvoices

My dear friend Scott alerted me to the death of the Amazing Kreskin last week, who died at the age of 89. His name rang a bell from me and once I looked at his NY Times obit I realized I'd seen him numerous times on the Carson Tonight Show. He was a mindreader or to use his preferred term, "mentalist." Here he is on Letterman in 1990:

And the divine fashion editor Polly Mellen died a few days ago at the age of 100. She started in the business as a minion to the even more divine Diana Vreeland and seemed to ingest her brand of gaga. Or maybe they both had it to begin with, who can say.

Mellen was known for forging valuable and wildly creative partnerships with photographers - - Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, etc. Here she is talking about the Avedon shoot with Nastassja Kinski and a Burmese python. Nice work if you can get it, right?
