CDA: Sly Stone

I read about Sly Stone's death in the NY Times (82). I immediately alerted my brother Howard, I knew Sly was a hero of his. I asked him to write something for this CDA. This is what he wrote:
"Of all of the bands in San Francisco in those Summer of Love days, where this city was the epicenter of the New Sound and also the style and spirit of that generation, my favorite has always been Sly and The Family Stone. Not the Dead or the Airplane or Janis or Love. Those early singles and the LP There's A Riot Going On are seared into my consciousness. Such a cool f-cking band. Black woman on trumpet? White guy on drums? Hell yeah. When I interviewed his biographer 20 years ago on KUSF, he spoke fondly of the old guy. He was finally granted, after much struggle, an interview up at Sly's place in Marin County. One catch, that they sit in his old 1956 Chevy convertible parked in the backyard for the chat. What a spectacular, grinning genius he was."
Howard chose these two songs. I love that Leslie Uggams introduces this:
"It's a Family Affair!" This performance is so warm and touching. But still badass. That Hammond organ knocks me out, also Sly's afro.
