My brother Howard alerted me to the death of Eva Marie Saint (age 102). She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her movie debut in On the Waterfront. Can I be honest and say I've never cared for that movie? Maybe I need to give it another chance.
Her acceptance speech is one of the greatest ever - - she's nine months pregnant and utterly adorable!
When I think of her I think of North By Northwest, one of my favorite Hitchcock movies. Here's her first scene. If you were to just read the words in a script you'd think she was incredibly bold and aggressive. But with her in the part, she's simply direct and rather frisky.
