Oh what glorious fashion! Thanks to my husband for the call to alert me to the passing of the great French couturier Hubert de Givenchy. I'd much rather hear it directly from him than overhear it in the powder room.

Here's his most famous look, the dress he made for Audrey Hepburn for *Breakfast At Tiffany's.* The CBS News website, in their obit this morning on Monsieur de Givenchy, referred to this as a "little black dress." I don't go to the CBS News website for sartorial accuracy (<<précision de couture>>), but Miss Hepburn's dress goes all the way to the floor. That is not a little black dress.

Anyway, bon voyage, Monsieur de Givenchy! Merci pour la beauté!
