A production from the Chichester Festival, playing at BAM, with Frank Langella as Lear.  I looked up the running time on their website before we left home - - I said to Richard, “Something’s wrong here - - *King Lear* is only three hours long, but *Die Fledermaus* was four.”  Topsy turvy!  *Lear* was fantastic.  Langella gave a tour de force performance, which is what you want in a Lear.  Grand and powerful, but also quiet and vulnerable.  He had it all, he is a marvel.  The whole cast was strong, and the staging was straightforward and logical - - the director did what the *Glass Menagerie* director didn’t do, he trusted the material.
