My friend Dale alerted me to the death of the Pulitzer-Prize winning American composer Ned Rorem. He was 99. He's best known for his vocal works and is also a gay icon and remarkable writer. I read a book of his memoirs in the 90s, *Knowing When To Stop.* Parts of that book are seared in my brain.

Here's Susan Graham singing what I imagine is his most-often-performed song, "Early In the Morning."
