CDA: Valerie Harper

Talk about a comeback - - in 2013 Valerie Harper was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer that spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain. She was given three months to live, and she just died last week! That'll show 'em!

Of course we all knew and loved her as Rhoda...

I was fortunate enough to have seen her twice on Broadway, first in the title role of Charles Busch's *The Tale of the Allergist's Wife,* on my last visit to New York in 2001. And Richard and I saw her in her final Broadway role, as Tallulah Bankhead in *Looped.* Here's my favorite line in the show (trigger warning: it's racy!):

I'd never heard of Betty Rowland but the title of her NY Times obit caught my eye: "Betty Rowland, One of Burlesque's Last Queens, Dies at 106." One oh SIX! That's impressive. Her handle was "Red Head
