This week I’m contrasting the original 1971 production of *Follies* with the first Broadway revival, in 2001.
Diva: 1971
Mensch: 2001
The original production was grand, opulent, fabulous. The revival was stripped down, gritty, disturbing. My examples are the “Loveland” number from both. This is the turning point of the show when the four main characters go through the looking glass (as it were) and express their deepest and darkest.
I’m on vacation and having trouble with my internet connection, so please go to my homepage to view the clips.
